Why Do You Think Girls Are Underrepresented In STEM?

Gender norms and stereotypes restrict girls' motivation and interest in STEM fields. Traditionally, a girl is taught that femininity means she should not be disruptive or dirty.

Young girls are typically given dolls and static objects to play with instead of mobile objects that are more complex and have multiple components, such as trucks and construction sets. Girls' mobility is often restricted as they grow up, limiting their opportunities to explore their curiosity.
